What is Linktree, and does your business need it?

Linktree puts a set of buttons behind your bio link. Here is how it works, what changes when you want to sell and when a simple links page is enough.

Someone asked me last week what the linktr.ee address in so many Instagram bios actually does. You see it everywhere, and hardly anyone stops to explain it.

Linktree creates a web page with buttons leading to your website, shop, social channels and anything else you want to share. Put that page’s address in your bio and it is ready. Here is how it works, what it costs, what changes when you want to sell and when it is enough.

What exactly is Linktree?

Linktree is an Australian company that started in 2016 with one problem: Instagram does not allow a clickable link in a post and you have one in your profile. Anyone who wants to offer more than one destination will be stuck.

The solution is an intermediate page. You create an account, choose a username and receive an address like linktr.ee/yourname. That’s where you put buttons. Someone taps the link in your bio, sees your list and chooses where to go.

It is deliberately simple. You don’t need a website, no hosting and no technical knowledge. You can be online within ten minutes and that explains why so many people use it.

How does it work in practice?

You log in, tap a button to add a link, paste the address in and give the button a name. That name is what your visitor sees. You determine the order yourself by dragging the buttons.

You can also choose colors and a background, put your photo on it and add icons from your social channels. The statistics show you how many people opened your page and which button they tapped.

The editor shows your controls on one side and a live page preview on the other.

How much does Linktree cost?

Linktree has a free version and paid plans. Their own pricing page listed four tiers as of September 19, 2026: the free plan, Starter, Pro and Premium, with prices per month in dollars and a discount when paying annually.

Linktree’s Free plan includes unlimited links, Linktree branding and basic numbers. Removing its logo, changing more of the design or seeing fuller analytics requires a paid plan. Its pricing page explains what each plan includes is Linktree free?, where I have placed their own conditions per plan next to each other.

One thing to note: the amounts are in dollars and do not include VAT. You will see the final price on your statement, not on the website.

What do you encounter when you sell something?

For a list of links, Linktree does what it promises. As soon as you want to make money with it, you come across three things that I keep seeing with entrepreneurs.

Every button sends your visitor away

A button is a redirect. Your visitor leaves the page and lands somewhere else: on your website, in your online shop, in a form. With each transfer, a portion is lost. If you want to give away a workbook, it goes from bio to link page to website to form to confirmation email to download. Five steps for one file.

Your own offer must be elsewhere

If you are selling an e-book, a course or a template, you need a place where payment is made and where the file is delivered securely. You arrange this with another party and that party knows nothing about your link page. The sale and the click are separate.

You see clicks and no sales

The numbers tell you how many people tapped a button. What happened next is in another system, or nowhere. So you know that there were two hundred clicks and not which reel brought you three customers. That makes improving guesswork.

Do you need Linktree as an entrepreneur?

That depends on what should happen behind your link.

If you only want to refer to your website and your channels, a row of buttons is enough. If you post on Instagram to get customers, you want the next step to happen on that page itself. Register, buy, start.

That is why I built Findori Links . It is a Dutch link page that brings the steps together: a sign-up form with a confirmation email, a digital product with Mollie payment and secure delivery, an online course with video and a student area, campaign links with QR codes and results down to revenue by post. Prices are in euros including VAT, with an invoice your accountant can use.

Quick comparison: a row of buttons that redirect, or a page where your visitor registers and pays without leaving. Create your link page for free and place one offer on it today.

What you can set up in ten minutes

  1. Create a free account and choose the address of your page.
  2. Place the offer your last post was about at the top, with a button or a form.
  3. Add your website and your channels below, in a quieter form.
  4. Put the address in your Instagram bio and mention it in your next story.
  5. After a week, look at visitors and sign-ups and adjust the top button.

Frequently asked questions

Is Linktree safe?

Yes, it is a regular web service that has been around for years. What you do pay attention to: your page is at their address and their username. If your account closes or their policy changes, your link will change with it. With your own domain on your link page you keep this in your own hands, as with custom domain and branding.

Can I use Linktree without Instagram?

Yes. The address works anywhere you can leave one link: TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, an email signature, a business card or a QR code on your packaging.

What is a good Dutch alternative?

Findori Links, for an honest reason: I built it myself because I wanted to sell in euros with iDEAL and Mollie, with VAT correct. What exactly is different is stated Linktree alternative.

How many links can I put on one page?

Technically as much as you want. In practical terms, three to five is the maximum, because someone who sees ten buttons of the same size will not choose anything. Prioritize one thing and downplay the rest.

Does switching take a lot of work?

Half an hour. You create your new page, put your links on it and switch the address in your bio. You can leave your old page until you are sure everything works.

Your next post could bring in your first sale.

Create your free account, put your most important offer first and add the link to your profile. No payment details needed.
